NEW CLICK TO CANCEL RULE
With the new Federal Trade Commission Click-to-Cancel rule set to go into effect in Spring 2025, businesses will be required to make it as easy for consumers to cancel a subscription as it is to subscribe in the first place.
The good news for nonprofits is that this ruling does not apply to 501(c)(3) organizations, many of which have large monthly sustaining donor programs.
That said, it’s always a good practice to ensure that all of your interactions with donors are smooth and seamless. So, now is a good time to take a close look at your cancellation options to make sure your process is easy and that the cancelation form and/or contact info is also simple to find. This new ruling has received a lot of publicity, which means that it’s likely your donors will be aware of it and will expect your organization to follow suit.
