Check Your Social Media Ads Before The Election

Starting October 29, Meta will implement a week-long period of ad restrictions for content relating to elections, politics, and social issues. These restrictions could also have an impact on nonprofit fundraising and engagement campaigns, depending on the content.

Here are three key things to know:

1.        The restrictions will be applied to all content relating to social issues through November 5, so if you’re relying on pre-election paid ad content to raise funds or spur action, maximize it before the 29th.

2.        During the window of restriction, you will be unable to upload new creative components such as photos, videos, descriptions, and links. You will also be unable to edit preexisting text and URLs.

3.        Ad placement controls such as targeting, custom audience, and optimization will be unavailable.

While these restrictions apply to paid ads, it’s a good idea to consider diversifying your advertising to other platforms outside of Meta, prioritizing email communications, and posting organic social media content that’s focused on generating engagement during this time.
